Smokey's back and ready for 2015!
Hi friends! It's me, Smokey. I’m so excited to be back for my third year as Spokesdog for Heartland Weimaraner Rescue’s 6th Annual Ghost Runners 5k Dog Run – I can hardly sit still! (And for those of you who have met me, you know it's true!) This year's event will be held October 25th at Stars and Stripes Park in Oklahoma City. You better bring your party hats this year – not only is it race day, but it's also my 5th birthday!!! So come on out and celebrate with me! I really hope there are pupcakes!
The Ghost Runners 5k is a great day for dogs and their people to get out and spend time together while staying active and healthy! Not only is it a super fun day, but this is also Heartland Weimaraner Rescue’s biggest fundraiser of the year! I really hope you can join us. Thanks to the support of people like you, HWR is able to care for Weims like me by providing medical care, food, and other necessities which helped saved my life and the life of my friends.
You see, Heartland Weimaraner Rescue is so important to me and my puppy pals. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. Their volunteer foster families provide dogs like me with a warm place to sleep, food to eat, and people to walk, play, and snuggle with – they’re the best! I mean, is there anything better than being loved? I was surrendered to Heartland in 2012 by my owners, after I was shot in the ear by a neighbor. The Rescue provided me with a safe place to heal. I may have lost my right ear, but I haven’t lost my fun-loving spirit and energetic charm. To say I have a big personality may be a bit of an understatement, but it sure goes hand in hand with my big heart. And guess what? Now be careful, my tail might knock you over due to my extreme excitement (you see, it comes out in bursts and is rather hard to contain), but it's just because I’m so happy to report that I became a permanent part of the HWR family when Momma Tina, the director of our Rescue and my foster mom, adopted me last year! Best. Day. Ever.
Okay, back to the event! In the past, the race has drawn approximately 1,500 spectators, including the human runners. With so many people in attendance, it’s a great way to promote your business and contribute to the community. My HWR friends have put together a packet of information for you about sponsorship levels for this year’s race. The Ghost Runners 5k Dog Run is a great advertising and promotional opportunity – your sponsorship will provide valuable assistance to HWR so they can continue to help dogs like me. HWR is a licensed non-profit animal rescue group – any donation you make is tax deductible.
A big thank you from me and all my Weimaraner friends for stopping by! We look forward to seeing you at our biggest event of the season – #GR5K – and would love to work with you to make the 2015 Ghost Runners 5k Dog Run the best yet! Thank you for supporting our program – we really couldn’t do this without you.

Parking & Race Route
About the Course
The Ghost Runners 5k Dog Run is run on a flat, fast, USATF certified course. Production, timing, and event services will be provided by Ultramax Sports using MyLaps bib tag timing technology. The timing tag is on the back of the bib and disposable. Simply wear your bib number on the front & center of your outermost layer of clothing, with the safety pins provided, and you can keep it when you've finished the race!
Water will be provided throughout the course and at start and finish areas. Remember, heat kills and water saves! Past Ghost Runners Races have proven it can be hot and humid. Please drink plenty of water before, during, and after the race. And don't forget about your furry loved one!! We will be supplying pet pools for cooling your pet down along with water bowls throughout the course as well.
We will have a triage veterinarian and nurse from Animal Emergency Center in our booth area. There will also be golf carts traveling the course to transport any injured animals/persons to the triage areas if the need should arise. Human triage provided by Local Police and Emergency Medical Services.
